For Adults“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.”
― Mark Twain |
During therapy the work begins with the here-and-now. By increasing awareness to the moment-to-moment experience we develop the ability to recognize that our thoughts and feelings are not all that we are. Feeling overwhelmed is a common experience for many people--we tend to call it "stress." It inhibits our ability to be fully creative and productive.
We often look for reasons outside of ourselves to justify this suffering. "If only I had more money." "I'll do what I really want to do starting next week/month/year, I just have to get through this." "Things would be different if my childhood hadn't been that way." "Things will be better when this project/phase/circumstance is over." We do this as humans because we think the alternative is to admit that there is something wrong with us--naturally, nobody wants to do that. The truth is that we are all flawed in this way. We all have a tendency to believe that our experience arises from our circumstances. But this is incorrect. To get unstuck we must accept our situation and see things as they really are. In therapy together, we will explore how your experience arises from the INSIDE. There is a beautiful wealth of love, courage, creativity, genius, compassion, and possibility in each of us. Together we can train your mind to remove the barriers that prevent this beauty from flowing and enable you to live a life that is inspired by your values and not your fears. |
