As a psychologist, I have the privilege of working with people in many different ways. The most common form of therapy that people are familiar with is individual therapy. One on one talk therapy that is focused on addressing a primary concern. Most often I do this type of work with adults and with youth.
Often, the people in a client's life play a big role in the issue at hand. This doesn't always mean there is conflict; though this is a hallmark of family problems. In family therapy, I help parents to understand their child better and how to change behaviors at home to improve the overall situation. You can read more about my collaborative approach to working with families. In couples therapy there could be a similar situation in which one individual has a more obvious difficulty that is causing strain on a relationship. However, with couples it is the dynamic between both partners that ends up impacting the relationship the most. It is this dynamic that is the focus of couples therapy. You can read more about why this is important in my couples therapy section. At times, a client may be uncertain about what type of therapy makes the most sense right now. In our initial sessions I can give you my expert opinion on what I think will help and we can make that determination together. |
