For Youth |
Growing up in Silicon Valley is rough. Youth are surrounded by smart highly motivated people and then asked to "be the best." Even when parents don't put these expectations on them, they receive these messages from their school culture and from peers. It makes it very difficult for a young person to feel that they can make mistakes.
But making mistakes is a young person's job! The crucial task of adolescence (and some would argue well into the mid-20s) is figuring out "who you are." Exploring one's identity is a little like going shopping for clothes. You don't really know if it's for you until you try it on. Sometimes you try something on and know instantly you'd never like to be seen in public looking like that. Other times you may find something that fits well for a time but then you outgrow it. Therapy is chance to develop your identity in a safe space. You can figure out who you want to be without judgment. |
